Blues
Club at The Bluefish Bar and Grill
After a very successful launch in January at
JusCool, drawing a crowd of over 100 blues lovers and a fabulous
collective of musicians, Sunshine Coast Blues Club Noosa Branch
has found a new permanent home at the Bluefish Bar and Grill
at Noosa Civic, Eenie Creek Rd, Noosaville.
Bluefish Manager Kim Muirhead has made the Blues
Club very welcome and the next Blues Night will be held on
the third Wednesday of every month with music commencing at
8pm.
Musicians are asked to bring along their own instruments,
guitars and sticks etc (House P.A, drums and bass rig supplied)
and elect to play a few tunes in blackboard jam style.
We look forward to seeing you there !!

From Barry Somers,
President of Artsun Inc
Artsun’s Sunshine Coast Blues Club was formed after
the outstanding response to the first Sunshine Coast Blues
Festival in 2005. The coast’s Blues musicians saw the
need to get together and share their love for the Blues on
a regular basis and after an extensive search found a home
at the crossroads in Nambour.
The Royal George Hotel has been the place to
get down and Boogie on the first Thursday of the month for
over a year now with the monthly jam celebrating its first
birthday on the 1st of February 2007.
Jam Coordinators, Al Hensley and Bob Lee, ably
assisted by our house band and a host of guest performers,
are helping to keep the Blues alive on the coast with a welcome
to all players to join in the fun and spread the word of the
Blues
The word certainly does seem to be spreading
with performers from across the coast regularly joined by
visitors from Brisbane and interstate who appreciate the laid
back atmosphere and dedication to the blues that our jam embodies.
The growing popularity of the Jam at The Royal
George has inspired our members to reach out to the north
end of the coast with another opportunity for players to get
together at the BlueFish Bar & Grill at Noosa Civic on
the third Wednesday of the Month. Noosa Jam coordinators Kath
Williams & Paul Martin welcome Blues Players to join them
for good times and great music.
In 2006 the popularity of the Blues jam inspired
us to include a new feature to our Sunshine Coast Blues Festival.
The Sunshine Coast Blues Club Stage was added to the program
creating an opportunity for all comers to perform at the festival
in a jam format.
We knew that it would be a popular move for
players to get involved but we were surprised by just how
much support the Blues Club Stage received with many of our
main stage performers including the Mason Rack Band choosing
to perform impromptu encore performances along with a huge
number of willing jammers. This support has ensured that the
Sunshine Coast Blues Club Stage is now a regular feature of
the Festival.
We hope you will
join us soon at:

Creative Careers Music
in Mentoring Program 2007
2007 for the Noosa Council Creative Careers
in Music Program launched with a 5 day residential camp at
Maranatha Recreation Centre at Yandina. 28 talented participants
from ages 12 to 18 rolled in early Monday 15th January, all
fired up for a week of networking, songwriting, rehearsal,
instrument workshops, music business seminars…and nightly
jams, under the guidance of the 14 mentors, all professionals
in their various specialized areas of the music industry,
and committed to guiding and assisting our next generation
of musicians.
This year the program had a couple of existing
bands, who had some material to work on (and came up with
new songs) with the expertise of the mentors…..the rest
of the participants teamed up and formed bands and duos that
worked solidly all week towards the performance at the J In
Noosa on Friday 19th. New original songs were performed on
the night that were only written during the week at camp…..some
of those by bands that only formed that week too !!
The standard of performance was amazing, and
the 300 plus crowd were treated to a variety of genres and
performance styles.
There is no doubt that many of these young musicians
will go on to have careers in the industry !!
Lots
of new friendships and musical relationships were formed,
and it was great to see some of the older participants taking
a mentoring role of their own with younger members of the
group. There was plenty of mutual encouragement and support
amongst the participants which goes a long way towards reducing
performance anxiety !!
The program will continue throughout 2007 with
the new 12 month Membership Program. This will consist of
weekly workshops, seminars and performance opportunities,
set up in 3 stages or levels of experience. Participants will
be able to work through those levels until they reach the
end of Stage 3…….check out the Creative Noosa
Website for information about the program, the mentors, past
events and how to join up.

Sunshine Coast Blues Festival
2006
The inaugural year for the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival was
2005. Arts Council Sunshine Coast Inc (Artsun) the organization
responsible for staging the festival, was offered a proposal
by Double Vision Management in 2006 to coordinate a Blues
Club Stage managed by myself and Kath at their festival, run
along the lines of the Blues Club jam nights, held monthly
on the first Thursday in Nambour.
The committee agreed to the proposal and soon
after began the canvassing of local music businesses for sponsorship,
a PA and backline was supplied and the Sunshine Coast Blues
Club Stage was born, the following excerpt is from a media
release following the festival from the President of Artsun
Barry Somers.
“The Sunshine Coast Blues Club Jam Stage
was welcomed to the Festival in style with a superb unprogramed
appearance by Mason Rack on Saturday and cemented its position
with many great moments over the weekend”.
“Artsun is a great community organisation
supporting the arts on the Sunshine Coast and Double Vision
Management recommends you support it by joining” |
